Based on your list from yesterday’s class, you are to choose one topic and type out a brief commercial persuading others to be considered about your topic. The commercial can be a PSA (public service announcement) or it can be a dialogue, but you and your group are to decide how you will persuade others to join your cause and one of you have to enter your commercial into the blog (but all the group members’ names need to be typed in at the bottom of the dialogue). Please let me see your commercial before you turn it in!
Forrest Gump- Renaissance Man?
A Renaissance man is defined as a person who is crafty and knowledgable about a lot of things (ex. Leonardo da Vinci was an artist, a scientist and an inventor during his lifetime). Now that you have just finished viewing the film Forrest Gump, would you define Forrest Gump as a Renaissance man? If yes, what made him a Renaissance man throughout the decades in spite of his disability? If no, why do you feel that he was not a Renaissance man? You are to answer this question in a 2-3 sentence response. You will be graded on grammatical accuracy, ability to answer the question and your ability to fulfill the sentence requirement. So if you have any questions, get me to read your response before submitting it.

American Imperialism
Read the statement below made by Senator Albert J. Beveridge. What does he feel America’s job is? Is America any better than the European powers that were taking advantage of Africa, Asia and South America? Please explain your answer in a 2-3 sentence statement.
“Mr. President, this question [of imperialism] …is racial. God has not been preparing the English-speaking…peoples for a thousand years for nothing… No! He has made us the master organizers of the world to establish system where chaos reigns. He has given us the spirit of progress to overwhelm the forces of reaction throughout the earth. He has made us adepts (skillful or highly able) in government that we may administer government among savage and senile (crazy) peoples. Were it not for such a force as this the world would relapse into barbarism and night. And of all our race He has marked the American people as His chosen nation to finally lead in the regeneration of the world. This is the divine mission of America, and it holds for us all the profit, all the glory, all the happiness possible to man. We are trustees of the world’s progress, guardians of its righteous peace. The judgment of the Master is upon us: ‘Ye have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many thing.’”
